The Skagway Recreation Center (SRC) is dedicated to enriching the lives of our community’s youth through a diverse array of engaging programs. We continually seek innovative ways to connect with different age groups, collaborating closely with other municipal facilities to ensure a consistent and comprehensive offering for all. At the SRC, we strive to foster community and support for both youth and their families. Our regular programs offered are:

Toddler Time
Join a parent/guardian-led social gathering for the little ones of Skagway! Held two mornings a week, Toddler Time offers a fun space for toddlers to play and explore, while also providing parents and guardians with support and social opportunities.

Middle School P.E.
In 2024, Youth programs staff have partnered up with the Skagway School district to provide P.E. classes for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders where children learn how to use commercial gym equipment and build their own workouts.

Tween Nights
Tween night is a community collaboration with the Skagway Public Library. SRC and Library Staff work together to brainstorm fun and educational activities for the town’s “tweens” (ages 10-13). The programs include science experiments, craft nights, and indoor/outdoor games and activities.

Summer Youth Program
The Summer Youth Program (SYP) is a four-week camp hosted by SRC staff for children in grades K-3. This dynamic program includes collaborations with local tours and facilities, as well as excursions to neighboring towns like Haines and along the Alaskan Canadian Highway to Carcross and Whitehorse, YK. Throughout the two weeks in June and July, participants hike scenic trails, learn about Southeast Alaskan flora and culture, enjoy nature tours, and engage in creative crafts and activities. With the support of our partners, the children of Skagway experience a summer filled with adventure and enrichment.

After School Program (ASP)
o The After School Program takes place at the facility from 3:30pm-5:00pm throughout the school year for kids ages K-5th. The structure consists of free play, snack time, and organized gym games to get the sillies out after a long school day. Collaborations with the Skagway Arts Council (SAC) also allow the kids to have some exposure to musical guests and artists from across the country.
